storyboard
1st
when there no interaction, the light from the 5 sculpture is on. some of the LED light also is light up but it may dim.
2nd
when the user cover one of the sculpture, the LED light will be brighter compare with when there no user interact with the installation.
in order to make the LED light brighter, all the sculpture must covered by hand.
Floor plan
this is my floor plan for the installation. the measurement is not confirm yet as some of the element might change.
idea development
Since
my topic is light pollution, I try to relate the main and major contributor in
light pollution in my installation. Thus, I use 5 element; car, building, spotlight,
street light, billboard light. I also use LED light represent star in the sky
during nighttime.
1st idea
My
1st idea is create 5 buttons that link to switch off the light inside the 5 sculpture.
Behide the 5 sculpture, it is semi sphere and inside in it LED light. The installation
works as when the button been click, the light in the sculpture will turn off
and some of the LED light will turn on.
2nd idea
The
2nd idea have same function with the 1st idea. Using buttons to interaction
with the installation. The different in 2nd idea is, a projector that will
project star image when the button is push and the light inside the sculpture
turn off. Star image will increase as the light inside the sculpture is turn
off.
3rd idea
For
my 3rd idea, I change the interaction method from push the button into camera
sensor. The LED light setups also change. The LED light will be hanging on the
ceiling. It will give the feeling of looking at the star. The interaction is
when the user uses their hand to cover the light from the sculpture; the LED
light will turn on. The more light from the sculpture been cover, the more LED
light will turn on.
4th idea
my 4th idea similar with the 3rd idea. However, i want to relate my installation with my artist statement. i want to create awareness about light pollution, which in order to reduce light pollution more than one hand is needed. that is why the 5 sculpture arrange on its own stands. it show, one hand can not cover all the major elements contributor in light pollution.
artist statement
Artist
statement
My topic is about light pollution. I
got the idea of this topic when I started doing my mind mapping for urbanism.
After doing some research on the topic, I start to realize that light can be
one of the pollution that I have never been aware of. One of the effects of
light pollution is sky glow. Sky glow can destroy the beauties of stars during
nighttime. It is an interesting topic and I have completed my research on this topic,
as it will be used for my final.
My installation is base on the topic
of light pollution. There will be five sculptures; car, lights Street,
billboard / advertisement board, building and spotlight / airport light. Based
on my research, this type of light is the major contributor in light pollution.
The installation works when users cover the light with their hand, the LED
light (act as stars) that installed on the ceiling will brighten up. Since
there will be five different type of sculpture, it will be more than one user
to cover those sculpture. The reason why it needs more that one hand, it is
because to reduce light pollution, more than one person needs to contribute. My
installation is not just to tell user that light can be pollution but it is
also to give awareness to reduce light pollution, and more than one hand is
needed.
